Dominion Eye Care in Virginia – Comprehensive Eye Exams
Dominion Eye Care, located in Manassas and Warrenton, Virginia, provides Comprehensive Eye Exams for teens and adults, as well as for patients with diabetes, high blood pressure and patients with a family history of eye disease. As we age, our risk of eye disease increases so it is important to have your eyes evaluated periodically. Adults 65 years or older, should have their eyes checked by our ophthalmologists at least every 1-2 years.
During the comprehensive eye exam, we may discover conditions such as Cataracts, Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Degeneration, and Glaucoma. These will require follow-up visits and may, depending on the severity, require surgery. For more information on eye conditions relating to Cataracts, Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Degeneration, Corneal Disease, and Glaucoma, please see EYE CONDITIONS.

What to Expect During a Comprehensive Eye Exam
Dominion Eye Care ophthalmologists perform thorough eye exams designed to provide a complete picture about your eye health. The tests check for visual acuity, distance vision, how well your eyes respond to light, peripheral (side) vision, eye movement, eye alignment, eye pressure, and sensitivity. Our doctors will check for eye scratches, damage from eye disease, scars, the eye surface and inside the eye. Your appointment will entail time for consultation as well as the actual physical eye evaluation. Our doctors will check on some or all of the following during the eye exam:
- Review your medical history
- Review your medications
- Measure for corrective lenses or glasses
- Measure your visual acuity
- Check your pupils
- Check your peripheral vision for symptoms of Glaucoma
- Eye movement test or ocular motility test

- Evaluate the front of your eye, including the eyelids, cornea, iris, and lens
- Evaluate the retina and optic nerve (dilation, which can last 4-24 hours after your appointment)
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), imaging the back of the eye or retina
- Topography, mapping of the surface of the cornea
